What's the big fuss over Fryes boots?

The Frye Company goes wayyy back. We're talking a century and a half! They are the oldest shoe company in the U.S., designing and producing stylish kicks since 1863.

During the Civil War times, Fryes boots were a must-have for Union and Confederate soldiers. Frye boots remained a popular brand throughout the Spanish-American War through WWII. Even former Commander-in-Chief Teddy Roosevelt wore Fryes boots! They might not be popular amongst soliders these days, but they are undoubtedly a celeb must. Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston are all Frye enthusiasts.

From the 1960s and on, the Frye company created a devoted following for the quality and versatility of their boots. When making an wardrobe investment, quality and versatility are extremely important characteristics, especially with boots. Boots must be able to endure weather and wear while complementing your outfit.

Frye boots satisfy needs for everybody. Styles range from Campus, to Western to Work. What more could you want? The Harness or Engineer Boot (originally created to protect bikers from the heat of exhaust pipes), can be partnered up with skinny jeans or a cute mini. Versatility? Absolutely!

How would you wear them? Which style suits your? Because if you win this giveaway, you’ll receive a $100 Shopbop.com instant gift card so you can start shopping right away for your favorite pair of Fryes. Love the Frye 12R's in black! I'd wear them with EVERYTHING, skinnies, leggings, dresses. I love the versatility of Frye's boots and they last forever!

I love the Melissa Riding Field Boots in Red Brown. They are so classic and can be styled to be edgy or elegant. I would wear them with this.

hi beauty? Is this where I tell you where I would wear them? Because I live in my Frye's - they may be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am eying the tan Deborah booties on this page - thinking about them with the only thing I ever wear - high waisted black skinnies, with bunched thick white socks, a black turtleneck, long black crepe sweater - topped off with the cropped leopard jacket - for a little sartorial contradiction. visualize it.

I absolutely adore the billy short booties in black. I live in the south so these would be perfect for our mild winters! I would pair these boots with knee-lengeth boyfriend distressted shorts and a tank with a slouchy sweater. They would honesty go with almost everything already in my wardrobe. Thanks!

LOVE the Deborah Studded Booties. Usually I'm not a huge fan of rhinestones, but Frye makes them look so perfectly worn in and right! I'd wear them (just like everyone else apparently!) with my black skinny jeans, but would top them off with my warmest and biggest Zara cream-colored poncho. And a huge bag of course!

I totally adore the classic rock vibe of the black "Engineer Boots". I would wear them with an oversize green cardigan (hello Kurt Cobain!), black miniskirt and black lace tights/leggings - for the girly touch. Oh, and some awesome chunky jewelry, like rings, too.

love your blog btw.

I'm loving the Paige boots! With that shade of red they'd have to be the standout in any outfit...so dark denim and a cable knit sweater would probably get the job done pretty well.

i LIVE in my frye boots! the melissa riding boot is my fave with the samantha patched boot as a close second. but seriously, i love them all. i usually wear them with skinnies and a shrunken cardi, or a cute jumper dress and moto jacket. some unique jewelry tops it off.

I need the Deborah Booties is Tan! The shape and color is perfection.

Because these are so versatile, I could either wear them to enhance a casual outfit (think black ripped jeans, white worn-in tee, oatmeal fuzzy cardigan, a load of rusted jewelry) or tone down an outfit (hair in messy bun, red skin-tight dress, cropped mink fur coat, a load of glitzy jewelry).

i'd wear the veronica slouch boots in drk brown. i'd wear them with crochet tights, thick wooly knee highs, a floral chloe/vintage inspired dress, oversized knit cardigan and an army jacket. i'd wear my hair down, golden make-up, long pendant jewelry, lots if delicate gold rings and i brown leather satchel bag. the perfect fall look.

I would choose the Melissa Button Boots in black. I would wear them with everything all day, every day and all night, every night. To be more specific, with my denim overalls from Japan, with all of my vintage 80's silk dresses I have gotten off of ebay and etsy, with and without tights, with sweatpants and snugly sweaters, etc... Oh, and with my Rackk and Ruin necklace of course! Not so subtle, huh? But, I am being 100% serious.

I have had my brown engineer boots for over 4 years now, and have worn them to work 80% of that time! Not only are they freaking comfortable but some how, even though they're brown they manage to match everything I own :D My favorite way of wearing them though is with a pair of tights, a puffy black skirt and simple black sweater.

OOH! My eternal favorites are the Harness 12R Boot in black. I'd pair them with a flowy short dress and maybe some black tights.

*fingers crossed so tight they're white*

thanks! ♥

I have been in love with those Melissa field riding boots in the reddish brown forever and ever. I would wear them with a short black/cream striped wool skirt and a short-sleeved black top (made by me!), plus tights, my 40s purse with the tortoiseshell handle, and big sunglasses. Thanks for the giveaway!

I saw a vintage pair of fryes at work (the salvation army) the other day and they were sooo beautiful. I was going to get them even though they were a half size too small, but at the end of my shift they had vanished! However I also love the Maxino Trapunto Shortie boot in light tan. I would wear them with my perfectly worn in med. wash blue jeans and my navy new york sweatshirt with elbow patches, which I'd layer over my aztec-ish button down. I'd a simple watch and my usual everyday rings.

Lainey said...

The Frankie Buckle Boots are pretty spectacular. I love the color and the height, and especially the heel. I've always wanted a pair of boots with a heel because all the boots I seem to have are flat. And while they're all great boots-I'd love at least one that'll give me some height for my short frame and something I can wear with a pretty dress for a night out with the girls.

Toyin O. said...

With a boot like the effortless Maxine Trapunto Shortie, I wouldn't need anything overly sartorial or abrasively stylish: this is something for the authentically everyday. With it, I would wear a solid, slender pair of gray, washed denim, mixed with a soft but tight-fitting white, cotton button-down. A couple loose, gold chains dangle nonchalantly from my neck and some similar gold bracelets hang from my left wrist. I wouldn't wear any earrings, but a nicely neutral-tanned wrap will do for headgear. Something that feels inimitable and instantly a part of you without trying to hard. "Effortlessly" is how I would wear it for that it what the boots represent -- no fuss, no embellishment, just good, fine quality.

I LOVE the Maxine Trapunto Shortie Boots. They are classic american. I adore that they look great with jeans or super cute with a skirt. I love mixing feminine with masculine elements so I would wear them with a rad vintage jean skirt I just found and a flirty fem blouse. They give any outfit an instant element of toughness which looks so cool when paired with flowing feminine elements. I would add on my favorite big turquoise and silver bracelet. The Maxine is boot perfection.

My heart skipped when I saw the Deborah booties in tan on your page. They are the boots of my dreams, the ones I've been looking for years and never findind exactly what I wanted. It was love at first sight. I'm a singer/guitarist in a band so I would wear them on stage, for photo sessions and everyday with everything: my black skinnies mainly but also with skirts and dresses. They look like they've been used on all the roads of all the countries in the world and that gives them a very emotional edge, like boots that know about life. And please pardon my English, I'm French!

Hi there!

I love the Engineer boots in brown. I'd wear them with my everyday outfit: denim skinny jeans, a white tee,my dragon ring and a silver necklace that used to be my grandmother's. And maybe a oversized wool cardigan.

Great giveaway, btw.

I've been lusting after a pair of the Engineer Boots for months and months--actually ever since my sister got them for Christmas last year (jealous)! I just haven't been able to come up with the dough :/ I'd wear them with my high-waisted blue Cheap Monday jeans, a black and white longsleeve shirt, and my Topshop knitted black shaggy gilet.

I adore the Deborah Studded Booties! I would wear them with skinnie jeans and a vintage band tee for a rocknroll look and then the next day wear them with a big cable sweater and boho dress!!
They're amazing!

Oh my, I'm so torn between the Matilda Button Tall Boot and the Harness 15R Boots. I'd wear the harness boots with whatever the hell I wanted! They are just that phenomenally delicious. Especially with that dirty worn finish. I could conquer the world in those boots. But the Matilda boots, oh my. I would wear them with dresses and shorts and frilly frou frou blouses to look like an urban alice in wonderland. Instant fairy tale.

This is such a fantastic giveaway! Sorry, I am going to take a moment to tell you what a girl crush I have on you. I love reading your blog, keep it up!

Moving on... I am in ridiculous, heart-breaking love with the veronica slouch boots in slate. The color is so unique and would be fab from season to season! I would wear them in the winter with skinny jeans, wooly socks and a giant vintage sweater which would compliment a hot toddy nicely. In the spring I would run through grass and roll down hills in them with over the knee socks and a floral dress. During the summer I would take them off to go swimming in a stream in a loose tank and my husbands levi's that I commandeered and cut off this summer. And finally in the fall, when they would be molded to my feet perfectly, I would stop by my favorite cafes and bars in the city to take advantage of the last of the open windows!

love the Billy Short Booties. they seem like the type of boots to get you places, y'know? Rough them up in the interim, street-scuffed and concert-worn. The type of boots you'd want to wear every day everywhere no matter the weather or the distance because each day, each mark would make them your own and a little bit better. i envision these with some great j brand slim fit black skinny jeans, worn in and perfectly slouchy sweater, oversized tweedy blazer with the sleeves of both layers rolled. alison mosshart of the kills would definitely rock these boots.

Emily Rose said...

Definitely the Frye Veronica slouch boot! Worn with vintage Levi's 501's cuffed pretty high, white t shirt tucked in, and an army green vintage military jacket. Classic!

My faves are the sandra riding boots -- pure, tough and the perfect heel height for everyday wear. And that's how I'd wear them - every day in every way, all Fall and Winter long. Perfect with skinny cords and a vintage fur vest. Perfect with a longsleeve floral dress, a leopard print coat and thigh high wooly socks.

I love the short Engineers in black. I'd pair them with a really thin skinny gray jean (a la current/elliot legging jean), a slightly oversized black sweater, and a waist-length faux leopard jacket.

Hello!

My favorite pair is the engineer boot. I bought them recently and theyre on the way now. Can't wait till I get them! I've been looking for these in my size in forever! I love them because they're THE engineer boots. Very classic. I'd wear them with everything cuz my sense of style has a rocker edge to it. With skinny jeans, tye-died and distressed, a simple tee, and since it's getting cold a blazer or a leather jacket. I'd also wear them with leggings or with tights under shorts and a sweater.

I love riding boots (and anything else equestrian) so I would have to say the "Paige Tall Riding" boots are my favorite...over some skinny jeans with a fitted blazer!

well, its a tough call, due to the overwhelming number of gorgeous boots frye offers (this year and many past). At first glance i loved the mellisa riding field boots, then i was caught by the dorado suede riding boots, but i think my final decision lays with the veronica slouch boot in the brown esh color. i love this deep worn in hue. boots are great cause they can be femme but also rough, and i believe these embody both. i would wear them (everyday...) with a floral print dress and tights with socks, or with jeans and a blazer and beanie. i would do my best to mix and match and rise to any and every occasion. i own the frye owen lace boot (not listed on shopbop) and i wore them with my amerlia earhart costume and recieve comments eveyr time i wear them. you cant beat frye boots.

I love the Maxine Trapunto Harness Boots. I'd wear them with skinny jeans, shorts or skirts. Just to add a bit of edge to everyday things.

I am absolutely, head over heels (ha! shoe pun!) in love with the Melissa Riding Field Boots in that rich dark red. I have been looking for riding boots to pair with everything from my dark jeans to my printed dresses. I just sewed a pair of slacks into jodhpurs and how appropriate would they be with a pair of riding boots. All I'd need then would be a fine stallion and a riding hat.

atthedeathdisco said...

The Frye Harness 12R Boots are my favorite! They look a lot like motorcycle boots, which is awesome...I'd probably wear them with skinny leather jeans, a long v-neck burn out white tee, my evil eye and skull necklaces and my axe earrings. I'd probably wear my jean jacket over that, with the sleeves rolled up..they also are perfect for riding my motorcycle! I'd really love them!

the ones, that i have been eyeing, although there are at least a couple of other pairs that i adore, are the short engineers in black. i need to have these first, the more classic and basic.
i would have to avoid wearing them with leggins, because im not very tall (164 cm, my legs are skinny, but my shoe size is rather big (38/7.5)and i might look funny, so it will have to be with skinny jeans. black, grey, white or my black bleached (black/brown).
on top a black loose tank with either a colourfull, saten scarf, or thick chain necklace. or with one of my handmade tees.

thank you so much for the give away
and i love your blog.

I'm a Theodore Roosevelt reprisor - I perform as TR, the Rough Rider President, in theatres and schools across the country. Most often I'm in Victorian black tie, but increasingly, I'm performing as the environmentalist and a pair of Frye Harness 12Rs in Chestnut would be perfect. They may not be the same boot as worn in 1898, and I'd love to know more. Bully! TR Joe

Also, I'd love to illustrate the boots and how I wear them- as I am an avid illustrator! :) My favorite pair is between the Cindy Slouch Boots and the Samantha Patch Boots!!!

I've never seen Frye boots in person, but I've heard so much about them, and all good things too.

My mom told me all about her Frye boots that she saved up for and bought right before she went to Woodstock! She went to Woodstock the day before it started and stayed for the entire duration. It sounded like an amazing time... And she experienced it all in her Frye boots. Makes me want a pair!!

All of their styles are gorgeous... I think my favorite pair is the Frye Frankie Buckle Boots. I can imagine all the outfits I could wear them with... if only I could afford them!

I'd wear them with skinny jeans, tights with skirts and dresses, leggings with tunics and more! I wear a lot of Free People and I think these boots would look great with anything from that brand.

For me it's all about the Matilda Button Tall boots. To have the workmanship of Frye combined with the timeless Matilda boot... be still my heart! I love that these boots would look amazing with skinny jeans, vintage dresses, modern looks to denim shorts I could wear them all the time! This is a great contest because winning isn't everything yet I have a whole new appreciation for the full Frye line which I didn't have before! Love your site and so glad to be inspired!

I love the engineer boots!
With their thick rubber sole, they definitely seem like they'll help me get through our Canadian winters. I would wear them with a floral dress (with a grey, white and burnt orangey print), thick grey sweater tights, and a chunky knit grey cardigan, and a toque (obviously, since I am Canadian!), and and army green jacket over top of it all for extra warmth.

Sara said...

I'd probably lean towards the black Erin Chelsea boot, in black, with mid-thigh black floral tights, that I cut up to be like shorts, and my oversized, grey cable-knit sweater, cuffed at the arms. The bangles and egyptian cuff I wear every day. Simple, airy. If its that cold, I'll settle with saltpepper thick socks, ruched underneath.

yes to winter! YES to boots!

Gotta love the Billy Short Booties in the lovely greenish pewterish color.
Perfect for pairing with the softest, buttery mahogany colored leather jacket, some sequin leggings, and the best most comfortable simple tee.
Actually, perfect for most anything.
Probably would be mah-velous with an oversized men button up shirt and some tights too. Oh wait, add a black headwrap thang to that ensemble and you're good to go!

the deborah studded booties in grey are so dreamy! i have been looking for a pair cowboy booties for some time and they are such a hassle to find. the embellishment on these specific pair makes them an accessory to virtually any outfit:
- knee high socks, a summer dress, and cardigan
- skinny jeans, a tuxedo jacket, and a tshirt
- leggings, boyfriend shorts, and a crop top

the possibilities are endless.

Deborah Studded Boots for sure are me.
I have a uniform (yuck!) so I would wear my argyle cream socks scrunched with my uniform and the boots.
In the summer a classic daisy duke and tank and winter they'd be my companion in the harsh Colorado winds with my jeans, skirts, and dresses.

I've been lusting after the dark brown Veronica Slouch Boots for months now. Edgy without being obnoxious, sophisticated but still effortless -- L-O-V-E. To be worn on chilly San Francisco autumn days with cream herringbone wool tights, a floaty mid-length vintage dress, and a cozy cropped jacket with faux fur hood. Add a weathered tan cross-body bag and a couple layered dainty necklaces to complete the outfit.

P.S. Follow your blog religiously. Keep it up, girl!

Since the moment I laid my eyes on the Melissa Button boot about a month ago, I have not been able to get them out of my head! The gorgeous leather, adorable button, and the great workmanship have definitely come together in this perfect pair of classic boots.

I think about these boots about once or twice a day... usually day dreaming about what I'd wear with them (hmm... how about a new knit dress and leggings, or some new skinnies and a long sweater?) but more likely than not, I'm thinking up how I can save enough money for a pair. I'm racking my brain to think of things to sell on Craigslist just so I can get these boots (I've already saved up $130 by selling some of my wedding decorations. Score!) but I'm pretty sure once I get these beauties, I'll need more money to buy super cute outfits to match the even-super-er cuteness of the boots.

Oh, and I went completely out of my way after work today just to touch my Melissa Button boots at Macy's. *sigh* they are heaven.
